I am looking to buy my first table and what to know what to look for and look out for. Is Gandy's Consumer guide to buying a pool table a good stating point? Any advice would me very helpful.

Haven't seen the Gandy Consumer Guide, but I'm not sure I understand why it would be efficient at anything besides promoting Gandy. Your best bet by far is to buy a good used table, and outstanding values are available on a near-daily basis in the classified ads of your local paper. If you decide on a new table, Brunswick's and Olhausen's top-of-the-line get uniformly excellent reviews; Gandy gets mixed ones; Vitalie stands accused of production shortcuts.
